- Jon Kabat-Zinn, a leading authority on mindfulness who has made the practice popular in the West. In 1979, he founded the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School based on Buddhist teachings. It evolved into a secular and scientific approach that combined meditation and Hatha yoga. The course helps people deal with stress, pain, and illness through “moment-to-moment awareness.” Two of his most popular books are Full Catastrophe Living ((1990) and Wherever You Go, There You Are (1994) (1944- )
